Pre-Race Comments

Wendy Venturini: And that day in history was made, Joey Logano 19 years old with that victory, and you were just watching, that video again, how sweet it would be to repeat up here in the North East, in front of sorta of a hometown crowd.

Joey Logano:: Yeah, I’ll have to see, this is sorta of like a hometown track for me for sure, growing up about 2 and a half hours away so, it’s neat well see what we’ve got with the Home Depot Toyota today. We struggled a little bit in practice just trying to find the right balance with the race car, we are starting in the back, well see we overcame alot last time we were here, no reason why we can’t do it again.

Wendy Venturini: How frustrating is it sometimes when you repeat, and come back to these racetracks, you think you got it figured out, you think you got a handle, you come back the track has changed, the cars are different, how is it for a driver, what goes threw your head?

Joey Logano: Alot, believe me, there is alot of things that is always going on, this is a really hard race track to get a hold of, I mean alot of times you see the same guys up front running here all the time, and it’s hard to get it just right, and figure out what you need to do in a race car, figure out what you need your race car to do, there is alot of things going on. So we will try hard, I think we are going to be working on the Home Depot Toyota all day and hopefully be there at the end.

Wendy Venturini: I know at the beginning of the season the goal was to get the 20 car in the top 20 in points for 2009, you’ve accomplished that the majority of the season, you look like you are on your way to that rookie of the year status so, what is the goal, does it change these final 10 races? Do you drive for a top 15 finishing position in points now?

Joey Logano: I don’t see why we can’t try to do that, yeah definitely going to try, we can put a good effort at that, if not you know, just try to gain as much momentum for next year, try to make the chase, that’s going to be the main goal, it’s just keep improving like we’ve threw-out the whole season and keep that deal going.

Wendy Venturini: Okay when it comes down to Joe Gibbs Racing, obviously Denny Hamlin the only seed in that chase, how do you help your teammate out on that racetrack, can you help him at all?

Joey Logano: There’s not a whole bunch you can do, when you are out there on the racetrack you know, well try always working together as much as we can, you know all the crew chiefs working together, the drivers trying to talk to each other so, whatever we can do to help for sure but at the same time we’ve still got our goals we’ve got to reach over here.
