What is the Sprint Showdown Race Format?

The Sprint showdown provides the opportunity for the first place and second place finishers of the Showdown to advance to the Sprint Cup All Star race. The race is held at the Lowe’s MotorSpeedway, and there are two 20 lap segments. A caution flag will be thrown on lap 20, and do caution laps do count during the Sprint Show down format.

Wendy Venturini: I am with Joey Logan one of those rookies who is going to go for it, try to race his way in with the showdown and get into the AllStar and if all else fails he is going to try to get that fan vote. Joey talk about this All Star race, do you pay attention we just saw a video about Dale Earnhardt Junior winning in his rookie, Ryan Newman winning in his Rookie Year, Tony Stewart his rookie season went out and won the Showdown raced his way into the All Star race, does that put any pressure on you?
Joey Logano: I got pressure on me all the time believe me, if that puts more on me that’s different. But thats not a big deal, I am just here to have a good time today, I think it’s kinda of cool it’s kinda of almost like an off weekend. You’re home you got all this stuff, well see were starting 19th, So I got not not much time to pass alot of well see what we can do, hopefully get in the top two, if not fans help me out and well see what we can do.
Wendy Venturini: Now when you talk about, you said have the fans help you out, you’re starting 19th off course that’s because we got rained out from qualifying, were starting in the starting order you were suppose to qualify, have you and Zipadelli talked about the strategy because it is a very short race 40 laps, you have alot of people in front of you, you might have to worry about, what is the strategy for you?
Joey Logano: You pretty much have to go, if you think about it, it’s like your old Saturday night short track races you know, you just go, 40 laps feature something like that just kinda of like going back to your roots, old school racing, it’s going to be fun if anything else we are going to have a good time, I am sure its going to be very exciting for the fans, the tough part is they are going to count cautions too so the race is going to be a real short session for me.,
Wendy Venturini: Now last week awesome run for you, a top 10, you had top 10 back at Talladega, you really seem more comfortable in this race car, around those guys here, what is it? Is it your confidence that is building up? Because surely it looks like it on the race track.
Joey Logano: Yeah I think my confidence especially from after last week at Darlington, I think our practice here the other day was one of the best practices we’ve ever had just me you know telling more of what I need in the race car, you know having the confidence of what to do on the race track more I think that just keeps coming along, I think the whole team is getting better you know as far confidence picking up and zippy is getting and were working good together now so, I think everything is starting to click, so were getting good finishes were getting better in points now and I got a good race car for tonight so hopefully we can race.
