Joey Logano Pepsi Max 400 Sprint Cup Preview
Joey Logano returns to one of his most consistent tracks on the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series this weekend when The Home Depot Team competes at Auto Club Speedway in Fontana, Calif. Logano will be making his fourth start at the two-mile track and most recently scored at top-five finish at Auto Club Speedway when the Series visited the track in February. The 20-year-old Logano has an average finish of 15th and has improved his finish in each of his three starts.
Logano and The Home Depot Team remain 20th in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series driver point standings, but Logano continues to make gains on the drivers ahead of him. He is just two points behind A.J. Allmendinger for 19th position, 30 points behind David Reutimann in 18th and 41 behind Dale Earnhardt Jr., in 17th.
The No. 20 Home Depot Team is taking chassis #284 for Logano this weekend for the 400-mile race at Auto Club Speedway. This is a new chassis in the team’s stable of orange and white cars. The back-up chassis is once again #272 which has competed in three races in 2010: Chicagoland (18th) the Coca-Cola 600 at Charlotte Motor Speedway (16th) and in June at Michigan (10th).

Logano earned his second NASCAR Nationwide Series (NNS) victory of the season last weekend at Kansas Speedway. Logano out-dueled his teammate Kyle Busch in the closing laps to earn back-to-back NNS wins at the track. He will be running double-duty again this weekend and try to add to his impressive statistics in the NNS Series this season. In just 20 starts, he has collected two wins, six poles and 19 top-10 finishes.
Logano quotes on Fontana:
“Fontana is one of the tracks where I think you can really see the progression of this race team. The first time we came here I really struggled in the Home Depot Toyota and ran toward the back of the pack the entire time. Last year in the fall, we improved quite a bit and came away with a top-15 finish. But when we were here in February, we ran solid all day and finished in the top five which was like a win for us at this track.”
“I really like this track. It’s pretty slick and doesn’t have a lot of grip at all. I’ve finished in the top six in all six of my Nationwide starts too, so that always helps. But what’s cool about it is that you can search all over the race track until you find a line you like and it gives you plenty of options to pass. The restarts are fun because it’s a lot like Michigan and everyone goes three and four wide to try and gain spots.”
“Last weekend was a pretty mediocre weekend for us, but a mediocre weekend for us used to mean 25th to 30th and now it’s 17th. Despite our run at Kansas, we are still doing really well as a team and we’re all looking forward to getting out there and running well this weekend.”
