Joey Logano Las Vegas Motor Speedway Preview

The Home Depot Team Notes of Interest

  • Joey Logano will be making his third career NASCAR Sprint Cup Series start at Las Vegas Motor Speedway this weekend. Logano has an average finish of 9.5 at the 1.5-mile Nevada track. Logano qualified The Home Depot Toyota in the sixth starting spot in 2010 and crossed the stripe in the same position.
  • About last week: Phoenix International Raceway (PIR) is one of Logano’s favorite tracks on the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series circuit and he was hoping for a great finish before the track is redone for the fall event. After tying his best qualifying effort of sixth at PIR on Saturday, coupled with two strong practice sessions on Friday, the team was optimistic heading into the 312-lap race. Unfortunately the engine expired on lap 213 of the 312-lap event relegating him to a 33rd-place finish.
  • Despite having top-10 cars in the first two races of the season, an incident at Daytona and the blown engine in Phoenix have left Logano and The Home Depot Team 29th in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series driver point standings heading to Las Vegas Motor Speedway. He sits 48 points behind teammate Kyle Busch who leads the standings.
  • The Home Depot’s monthly Kids Workshop will feature the No. 20 car driven by Logano this Saturday, March 5 from 9 a.m. – 12 p.m. Kids Workshops are a FREE family activity, designed for children 5-12, available the first Saturday of every month at all The Home Depot stores. In addition to instilling safe DIY skills and a sense of accomplishment, each child gets to keep their car, along with a Kids Workshop apron, achievement pin and diploma.
  • Meet Logano! Fans in the Las Vegas area can meet Logano at The Home Depot Store following the NASCAR Nationwide race on Saturday, March 5 from 6 – 7:30 p.m. The store is located at 855 East Dorrell Lane in North Las Vegas. There will be photo opportunities with the No. 20 Home Depot Toyota and an autograph signing by Logano. Wristbands will be distributed starting at 5 p.m. to the first 700 fans.
  • The No. 20 Home Depot Team is taking chassis #297 this weekend for the 400-mile Las Vegas race. This is a new chassis for the No. 20 Team. The back-up chassis is chassis #284 which Logano drove last year at Auto Club Speedway to an 11th-place finish and at Phoenix International Raceway in November to third.

Joey Logano Quotes on Las Vegas:

“I really enjoy racing at Las Vegas. The two races I’ve run there were both pretty good. Las Vegas was one of the places when I was going through my rookie season that I went to and was a good track for me. I always look forward to going to places like that. It’s kind of like Charlotte Motor Speedway in that it’s got a lot of grip so that makes it a lot of fun for me. I enjoy that type of racing. It’s very fast, but it’s fun. I like the tracks that are kind of two lanes and not six lanes. It seems to work out better for me.

“It goes without saying that first two races have not gone the way we wanted them to, but we have so few engine failures at Joe Gibbs Racing so it’s hard to get too upset about that week. It’s frustrating because we’ve had really fast cars. We need a good run this weekend so we don’t get into a hole that we can’t get out of. But Zippy and the guys are preparing great cars, so as long as we don’t have any issues we should be able to run top 10.”
