Qualifying Results

Qualifying is done a little bit different for the Daytona 500 compared to the other 35 races on the NASCAR Sprint Cup schedule. Teams first qualify like normal, Logano qualified 34th overall, a video of his qualifying run is posted below. The top two qualifiers are the only ones whose qualifying times are set, the other teams must race for their starting positions in the Gatorade Duel 150 race.

Logano raced in the second Gatorade Duel 150, he started from the 15th position, and was going to the front when on lap 15 Logano was involved in an incident in the Tri-Oval. Video of the incident can be seen below. Logano finished 23rd in the 2nd duel, and the team had to go to a back up car for the Daytona 500. As a result of the finish Logano was set to start the Daytona 500 from the 38th starting spot.

Race Results

Joey Logano started deep in the field in the Daytona 500, but was able masterfully work his way to the front, and found himself running as high as 2nd at one point during the race where he and teammate Kyle Buch worked together. Unfortunately for Logano, on Lap 166 Brad Keselowski lost control of his car, and made contact with the number 20 Home Depot Toyota. At the first the Home Depot Racing team tought the damage was fine to continue, however Logano sensed the right rear was not going to make it, and had to come down under green flag conditions to the attention of the Home Depot Crew. Logano would finish the race two laps down in the 23rd position.
