Joey Logano Auto Club 400 Results

Joey Logano had his best qualifying run in the 2011 Season, and qualified his number 20 Home Depot Toyota in the 3rd position for the Auto Club 400. On race day however the team discovered an issue with the engine, and decided to go ahead and change the engine prior to the race. This meant that Logano had to start from the rear of the field.

After starting from the rear of the field, Logano began making his way toward the front, and by lap 15 was already up to 27th position. Logano came in to the pits on lap 32 for a green flag pit stop. A round down on the trackbar adjustment was made to the car. After the first round of pit stops cycled through, Logano was in the 20th position.

The first caution on the Speedway would come out on lap 75. Logano at the time was in the seventeenth position. From that point forward Logano battled hard to try to make his way forward but found himself running mid pack most of the race.

With 9 laps to go, in what would be the final restart in the Auto Club 400, Logano was running in the 16th position and would start on the outside line. On the restart the number 09 of Landon Cassill spun his tires, and Dale Jr who restarted behind Cassill moved up a lane to avoid making contact with Cassill. Logano who was behind Earnhardt on the restart held his line, but as luck would have it would be black flagged for passing before the start finish line. Logano would have to come down pit road under green flag conditions to serve a pass through penalty. Logano finished in the 25th position, the last car on the lead lap.

Logano’s teammate Kyle Busch dominated the race, and led a total of 151 laps, but Kevin Harvick was victorious in the end leading the final lap, his only lap led of the day. Kyle finished 3rd, while Denny Hamlin suffered engine issues after looking strong early on in the race. Denny finished 39th, 95 laps down. Had the number 20 team not changed the engine, Logano could have very likely had engine issues during the race, similar to what Denny Hamlin experienced.

Logano is currently in the 29th position in the driver standings, as they head into Martinsville a track where Logano posted finishing positions of 2nd and 6th in 2010. Logano will once again look to finish strong at the Martinsville Speedway as he did in 2010.
