Joey Logano AAA 400 Preview

The Home Depot Team and Joey Logano head back to the Monster Mile this weekend for the 400-lap event in Dover, Delaware. Dover International Speedway has been one of the better tracks for Logano on the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Circuit despite his DNF last fall. In three starts at the one-mile track Logano has two top-15 finishes and ran as high as third in June before having his fender damaged on pit road. Logano qualified in the 11th position last fall, but was involved in a multi-car incident that sent him rolling down the front stretch.

Logano and The Home Depot Team slipped one spot to 22nd in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series standings following the race at New Hampshire International Speedway. Logano was racing in the top 15 when he was collected in an accident started by fellow driver Kurt Busch. Logano would eventually be forced to retire from the race with a broken gear and was scored with the 35th-place finish. He now sits 51 points out of the top 20 and less than 200 out of 15th with nine races remaining on the 2010 schedule.

After a two week hiatus, Logano will once again be running in the NASCAR Nationwide Series race this weekend in the Dover 200. Before piloting The Home Depot Toyota on Sunday, Logano will climb into the No. 20 GameStop Toyota on Saturday where he has collected 17 top-10 finishes in 18 starts this season including four poles and one win.

The No. 20 Home Depot Team is taking chassis #275 this weekend for the AAA 400. This will be the third time this chassis will be raced this season and it has two top-10 finishes. Logano piloted chassis #275 to a ninth-place finish at Indianapolis Motor Speedway and crossed the stripe 10th at Michigan in August. The back-up chassis is #272 which has competed in three races in 2010: Chicagoland (18th) the Coca-Cola 600 at Charlotte Motor Speedway (16th) and in June at Michigan (10th).

Logano quotes on Dover:

“I’m really excited about this weekend. We’ve always had good Home Depot Toyotas that were really fast at Dover, so I can’t wait to get there. I think we ran up to third in the spring race until we got the fender knocked in, but even after that we finished in the top 10. The Nationwide car has also been quick, so that race will be fun too.”

“It’s the one-year anniversary of the big barrel roll, so I get to hear about that all weekend. Plus we are coming off a bad weekend at New Hampshire too. So this is a great place and race for us to go, run well, put all of that behind us and move forward. It’s been tough because we’ve run so much better this year than we did last year, we just don’t have much to show for it and that’s frustrating. But we have some great tracks coming up for us with just a few question marks like Kansas and Talladega, so I really believe we will finish up strong.”
