Emory Healthcare 500 Preview

The Home Depot Team and Joey Logano head to Atlanta, the headquarters of The Home Depot, this weekend for the 25th race of the 2010 season. This will be Logano’s fourth NASCAR Sprint Cup Series start at Atlanta Motor Speedway (AMS). Atlanta has become a sort of nemesis for The Home Depot Team and Logano. Logano was running mid-pack early in the race in March when the No. 20 Home Depot Toyota was pushed into the wall by another car and suffered extensive damage. Later in the race the right-front tire blew on the orange and white Toyota, but Logano was able to finish the race in the 35th position. In three starts at the 1.5-mile track, Logano’s best finish is 22nd.

Logano grew up racing around AMS, but on the smaller front-stretch oval in Bandoleros and Legends cars. In fact, Logano still holds the track record for consecutive wins in a Legends car with 14 victories in 2002. He captured several track and national titles while competing at Atlanta as well.

Logano and The Home Depot Team sit 21st in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series standings following an18th-place finish at Bristol Motor Speedway two weeks ago. Logano is 24 points out of the top 20 and 166 points out of the top 15.

The No. 20 Home Depot Team is taking chassis #281 this weekend for the Emory Healthcare 500. This is a new chassis for the team that will make its debut this weekend. The back-up chassis is #272 which has competed in three races in 2010: Chicagoland (18th) the Coca-Cola 600 at Charlotte Motor Speedway (16th) and in June at Michigan (10th).

Joey Logano Quotes

“I look forward to going to Atlanta. The Home Depot is there and I lived there for almost six years. We’ve always had good cars there, but something always happens to us. The good news is every time we go back, we seem to get better and I don’t think this weekend is going to be any different. We’ve always had good speed, so hopefully we can come away with a solid top-10 finish.

“Atlanta is so temperature sensitive. We practice during the day, qualify in the mid-afternoon and race at night. Qualifying is so important at these tracks, you need to get up front because it will get strung out after awhile. Then, once the sun sets there’s so much grip out there. You have to have a plan and play your cards right because the track is so different from practice to the race, but everyone is in the same position.”
