Coca Cola 600 has been PostPoned

The Coca Cola 600 was scheduled to be aired today on FOX beginning at 5pm Eastern, but mother nature had other plans of the Coca Cola 600. So as a result, the race has been delayed, and is now rescheduled for tomorrow at noon eastern time. While it may officially be rescheduled for Monday at Noon Eastern time, there is still a 50% chance of rain at noon Eastern time in the Concord, North Carolina area where the Lowe’s Motor Speedway is located. But… as you know with weather, anything can happen, and weather patterns can change.

Preview for the Coca Cola 600

On Thursday Joey Logano qualified his Home Depot Toyota in the 14th position, and that is where he will start the race. If you missed his qualifying lap, and his post-qualifying interview, it is on youtube, here it is below.

In the final practice session on Saturday afternoon, Joey Logano was ranked in the 4th position, with the experience of the All Star Race, Joey Logano was looking solid in the practice sessions for the Coca Cola 600. However when they drop they finally drop the green flag for the Coca Cola 600, the track is going to be different, due to all the rain, and the rubber being washed off. As the experts call it, it will be a “green” track.

Today Joey Logano did get some TV air time, first on SPEED TV, on the show called “Race Day: Built by the Home Depot”, he was interviewed by Hermie Sadler and here is the recap.

Hermie Sadler: Great memories from the Coca Cola 600 here at Lowe’s, and I gotta say we saw a piece from Dale Jarret in 1996 and I said Joey, how about Dale Jarret dominating that race, do you remember that? He Said, “I was only six years old, I have no idea”. You’re 19 today though, you’re getting on up in the world, Happy Birthday!

Joey Logano: Thank you! I am getting old now, (chuckles).

Hermie Sadler: How about this race for you, first time going at it for 600 miles anything different going on in your mind for 600 miles as opposed to a short race like 500 miles.

Joey Logano: (chuckles) Yeah a short race like 500, I don’t know it’s either a couple of little things different but I don’t think its going to be much, it’s going to be a long grueling race if we get it in here, I don’t know about the weather right now, the Home Depot Toyota was really good, qualified 14th, our final practice I was happy with the car, we’re fast so, really excited, excited to get out here, I really like this place, from the top to the bottom, I think the new asphalt type of race tracks, are playing to my favor right now, as long as I am a rooking right now so well see what we got.

Hermie Sadler: Seems like maybe right after Talladega you got your first top 10 ten finish, it’s almost like a little light came on, and things started to click better not only on the race track, but your communication with your crew chief, was that something that gave you a little confidence?

Joey Logano: Yeah I think it’s a lot of things that are going together, yeah the confidence, the momentum has been building since then, I think that’s huge that’s been going in, I think just getting some notes built up from the beginning of the year, and being able to get back on something that we couldn’t do at the beginning of the year, I think helps alot too so, experience, getting out there, you know momentum, all that stuff just keeps building up, and I think that’s why we’re getting better right now. So hopefully we can keep going on that.

Hermie Sadler: Now I don’t want to put any added pressure on you, but I know you’re sponsor Home Depot would love to get trophy from the race track here at Lowe’s Motor Speedway, how about that?

Joey Logano: Oh I know that! I know home depot would love that, so we are going to try as hard as we can, you know we’ll do whatever we got.

Later on the Fox Pre-race show, during the rain delay, Joey Logano was interviewed by Krista Voda, here is the recap.

Krista Voda: Alot of these drivers are like man 600 miles that’s going to feel even longer, now that we are kinda of around, well Joey you have an advantage you’ve never raced in the 600 mile race, so you don’t have any preconceived notions, that’s an advantage right?

Joey Logano: Well if you think so, haha. I don’t know well see hopefully get this thing in, dark clouds are rolling out surprised I’m were not getting wet right now, but if not well see, I think I got a good Home Depot Toyota, we practiced really good, so hopefully well get this race in, and have alot of fun.

Krista Voda: Let’s talk about your big birthday, I mean any Birthday Cake, have you done anything fun other hanging out with the wall today with me?

Joey Logano: Everyday I went today, I got the happy birthday song, at least five to six times today, everywhere I went, so that was cool, I did the souvenir appearance out at the trailer outside the track, they sang like two or three times out there, that’s crazy. It’s cool that this many people know my Birthday that’s nuts but I don’t know well see, if not well drink some Ice cold cola during the rain, but hopefully it don’t and well go racing.
