Richmond Results
This weekend was set to be a historic weekend for Joey Logano. He was going to be doing double duty. Driving in the nationwide series on Friday, and then off to make history on Saturday night, to make his debut race in the sprint cup series. However, mother nature had other plans for the young phenom.
Both races this weekend were scheduled to be impound races, the plan, one practice session for the sprint cup series, and one practice session for the nation wide series. They were going to practice both sprint cup, and nationwide on the same day. And also qualify for both series on the same day.
On Friday, Joey was able to practice for the first time officially, in the sprint cup series. Joey was very impressive in his outing, as he was the fastest of the Joe Gibbs car during the practice session. He would wind up in the 10th position in the sprint cup series practice sheet! After the sprint cup practice, Logano went to practice the nationwide car, and in the nationwide car, Logano was the second fastest on the practice sheet.

When it came time to qualify, mother nature did not co-operate. It began to rain, as the outer bands of Tropical Storm Hanna reached Richmond International speedway. The good news, is that Joey Logano would now be starting on the pole position in the nationwide series, because the number 20 car is leading in the owner points. The bad news was that Joey Logano’s debut would have to wait one more week, since the number 02 car, did no have any owner points. And since 46 cars attempted to qualify at Richmond, Logano would have to be one of the cars that would not make it into the show.
The race in the nationwide went well for Joey Logano, he lead some laps early on, and raced in a sporty new paint scheme. Tonight he drove the special paint scheme for the video game Rock Band, and yes still under the banners of Gamestop as well. Logano would finish in the seventh position, as he added another solid top 10 to his already impressive resume. Logano was also the highest finishing Gibbs car for the race.
Next week, Joey will attempt to do qualify again for the sprint cup series at the New Hampshire Motor speedway for the Sylvania 300. He will not be racing in the nationwide series, as they have an off week. The next nationwide race will actually be on September 20th, at Dover International speedway.
You can catch qualifying for the sprint cup race on Friday at 3 pm eastern time on ESPN 2. The race will air on abc, and start at 2 pm Eastern time.
