Qualifying Results

When Joey Logano took his qualifying run around the Kentucky Speedway, he made one lap, and was the provision pole leader with a lap time of 30.881, beating his team mate Kyle Busch who had a time of 30.884. Here is what Joey Logano had to say after his qualifying run.

Question: What was so exciting about that lap?

Joey Logano: I was dead sideways, that was pretty much what kinda of caught me off guard there, we were kinda of loose in practice yesterday when we put on new tires so, I was hoping we had it better, we just never made a mock run so we didn’t know what we were going to have, I tell ya Dave Rodgers and the whole gang is doing a great job with this car, it’s been fast ever since we’ve got here, we haven’t gotten it driving just right, we’ve been fast so, we got that going for us so, well see what we can do with old Prototype GameStop Toyota today, it’s fast so might be a handful tonight, but it will be fast.

Question: You are one of the drivers doing double duty this weekend, you got to practice the car yesterday, your teammate Kyle Busch did not practice his at Kentucky, how much of an advantage was it for you today?

Joey Logano: I think it was an advantage, for Kyle Busch I guess it doesn’t really matter for him, he just goes out there and wheels it no matter what so you know I think for me, yeah I think it definitely helps, you know just working on your car, getting it to where I want it to drive, and I mean it goes to show, we’re on pole right now, hopefully it stands up there, but yeah I mean definitely anytime you can work with your race cars instead of someone else in it, it is definitely going to help.

At the end of the qualifying session, Joey Logano was officially the pole winner for Meijer 300, Joey beat his teammate Kyle Busch to earn the pole position.

Jaime Little: Joey, big moment for this team at the end there, you make the pass on the 18 car, what does it mean to you to beat them straight up knowing hes the hottest driver in NASCAR right now?

Joey Logano: It’s awesome I tell ya, it’s cool that Joe Gibbs racing has 1-2 races, last 2 races I’ve been involved with we ran 1-2 like that, and the 20 team definitely owed em one after Dover, this is awesome I tell ya, I gotta thank the fans, I gotta thank GameStop, having Prototype on the car today, awesome looking car, obviously really fast I tell ya what, this place just fits me. I tell ya I just like it, and were fast every time we come around here, so I gotta thank these guys they do awesome, they work so hard, Dave wanted this so bad, so that’s awesome for them.

Jaime Little: Joey you told me before the race, that coming here for practice yesterday you over adjusted you guys barely touched it tonight, Kyle even said you took a note from Mark Martin and saving your equipment and not adjusting your thoughts on the car tonight.

Joey Logano: Yeah we changed around, I mean sometimes were really loose it just kinda depend on what set of tires we had, I think we had one bad set of tires it kinda of killed us, first pit stop so, you know I think after that we just saw what we had, got caught down and got caught speeding on pit road my fault and to over come that, that’s huge. So this is just awesome, I really wanted this one.
