Joey Logano O’Reilly Auto Parts Challenge Preview

No. 20 GameStop Toyota News, Notes & Paint Scheme:

  • UNFINISHED BUSINESS AT TEXAS: Texas Motor Speedway is not one of Joey Logano’s best tracks on the NASCAR Nationwide Series schedule in terms of statistics. In four career races at the track, his average finishing position is 10th, and he’s only led a total of 34 laps at the 1.5-mile oval. It’s also one of only three tracks that Logano has recorded a “DNF” at during his Nationwide Series career. But Logano has some unfinished business at Texas following the spring event. Logano finally turned the corner at Texas, qualifying on the pole and leading 33 laps before coming home second to Joe Gibbs Racing teammate Kyle Busch earlier this year. And this time, Logano is out to get what he’s been trying for… a win at the hometrack for his long-time Nationwide Series sponsor, GameStop.
  • NASCAR MEETS GRAN TURISMO 5 IN TEXAS: The No. 20 GameStop Toyota will feature the look of the newest game in one of the best-selling video game franchises of all time, Gran Turismo 5, this weekend at Texas Motor Speedway. Developed exclusively for PS3 by Polyphony Digital, Gran Turismo 5 brings the world’s most realistic and comprehensive driving experience to fans in one of the most highly anticipated games of all time. Gran Turismo 5 (GT5) features more than 1,000 licensed cars from the world’s top manufacturers and more than 20 tracks with more than 70 variations, including famous world circuits, city courses, and other environments. Every conceivable type of motorsports genre is included in GT5, including drifting, rally car racing, go-karts and even, for the first time in the franchise’s history, fully-licensed NASCAR racing. In addition to all of the stars of the Sprint Cup Series, fans who preorder GT5 from GameStop will be able to download Joey’s No. 20 GameStop Toyota with the GT5 paint scheme to utilize in the game. Back in August at the GameStop National Conferences in San Antonio, Texas, Joey helped debut game play footage of the GT5 game. Logano was able to race the creator of the Gran Turismo series, Kazunori Yamauchi, in a head-to-head matchup and beat the creator, earning all of those in attendance a free copy of the game when it’s released later this year.
  • HOME SWEET HOME… FOR GAMESTOP THIS TIME: GameStop, Joey’s long-time sponsor in the NASCAR Nationwide Series, is headquartered in Grapevine, Texas, just a short drive from the racetrack. GameStop is the world’s largest video game and software entertainment retailer and has been a supporter of Logano and the No. 20 Joe Gibbs Racing Toyota since Joey made his debut at Dover International Speedway during the 2008 season. During that time, GameStop has greatly benefited from the relationship and turned the No. 20 into one of the most recognized cars on the track, synonymous for its ever-changing paint scheme. Since starting their sponsorship in 2008, the No. 20 has featured more than 35 different paint schemes promoting a number of popular video games, gaming systems and gaming accessories. GameStop will have a number of guests at the track all weekend long, including CEO Paul Raines and President Tony Bartel.
  • CONFIDENCE BREEDS RESULTS: Joey has been on a roll as of late not only in the NASCAR Nationwide Series, but also behind the wheel of his No. 20 Sprint Cup car as well. In the last eight Sprint Cup Series event, Joey has recorded three top fives and six finishes of 11th or better. His fifth-place finish at Talladega marked the first time that Logano has recorded three-straight top-10 finishes in his Sprint Cup career. And the confidence that comes with that has transferred over to the Nationwide Series, where Logano has two wins, 13 top fives and 21 top10s in just 22 starts in 2010. He also has a series-leading six pole awards. And despite missing 10 events this season, Logano still finds himself ninth in the NASCAR Nationwide Series point standings.
  • STAT OF THE WEEK: 3. In 63-career starts, Logano has only failed to finish just three races. Logano was involved in accidents and retired early from races at Montreal in 2008, Watkins Glen in 2009 and Texas in 2009. Those are the only races that Logano has failed to finish during his entire NASCAR Nationwide Series career. Therefore, of the 60-career races that Logano has found himself running at the finish, a total of 51 of those have been inside the top 10.
  • FEATURED ON THE No. 20: The GameStop Store Support Center in Grapevine, TX will be the featured store on the lower rear quarter panel of the No. 20 GameStop Toyota this weekend in Texas.

Joey Logano Quotes:

“Texas is a place that I’ve always really struggled at until this past race in the spring. We turned the corner there and figured some stuff out, and that showed by winning the pole and coming home second. But this is a track that I really want to get a win at for my sponsor GameStop. This is a really important race for them and they always bring a lot of people to the track, so there isn’t much more we could do to show them our appreciation then to get the No. 20 GameStop Toyota into Victory Lane on Saturday.”

“Texas is a really cool track. It is similar in shape and size to Charlotte, which is one of my better tracks, but they are vastly different too. Charlotte is much more sensitive and takes a little more finesse then Texas. Texas is more an ‘all out’ type of track. But you still really need to have a good handle on the car to get it to do what you want there. I know we are taking our best car to the track, and we’ve went over the notes from the spring, so I think we’ll be ready for the weekend. We need to get this car back to Victory Lane and get the No. 20 back up there in the owner’s point standings. That is my goal is to win a few more races and get this 20 car back up to third in the owner point standings by the end of the season.”

“I’m pretty pumped about having Gran Turismo 5 on the car this weekend as well. It is one of the biggest selling video games of all time. I’ve been fortunate enough to get to play some of the early builds of the game and even got to play against the guy who created the whole series. And for GT5 to include NASCAR in the game this year is really sick. To think that you can go on there and race the No. 20 car is wild. I’ve played a lot of racing games my whole life, and it’s always crazy to see not only one, but two of your own cars in the game. So maybe if I get to Victory Lane, they’ll send me a free copy of the game. Haha”

Kevin Kidd Quotes:

“I really only have one goal this weekend, and that is to go back to Texas and win the race like we were close to doing back in April. We had a good car that day and just weren’t able to keep up with the adjustments on the car as well as our teammate was. We had great pit stops, and we put ourselves in positions to win the race. If we do that again this weekend and learn what we did from the spring race, I think we’ll be a force to reckon with.”

“We’ve got two things really going for us this weekend. First is Joey. He’s been on a roll on the Cup side and that confidence always comes over to this side (the Nationwide garage) as well. Joey’s been solid over here all year long, but with that little bit of added confidence that comes from starting to run really well on a consistent basis over there, that will make him just that much better over here. On top of that, we’ve got our best car, 2089, coming to the track this weekend. That has been the car that Joey has used in five of his eight-career wins. It’s a great car, and Joey really seems to like the way it drives. We know a lot about the car and have a lot of notes on what it takes to make it go a little faster. So all of those things added up, with a lot of hard work by the guys and good stops by our crew on Saturday, and there is no reason we shouldn’t be a contender in this race.”
