Great Clips 300 at Atlanta Motor Speedway Preview

No. 20 GameStop Toyota News, Notes & Paint Scheme:

  • OLD SCHOOL BACK TO NEW SCHOOL:   Joey Logano and the No. 20 GameStop Toyota will feature the new Nintendo Wii game Metroid: Other M this weekend at Atlanta Motor Speedway.  The Metroid series of games has been out since the days of the original Nintendo system of the 80s.  However, the newest version of the famed series takes the best elements of first-person and third-person gaming to create a seamless blend between game play, storytelling and dynamic cinematography. Players hold the Wii Remote™ controller sideways while navigating and battling in third-person. However, at any moment, players can switch immediately to Wii Remote pointer controls to examine and explore the environments in first-person perspective.  The game, rated T (Teen), was released  August 31, 2010 by developers Nintendo and Team Ninja.
  • HOME SWEET HOME, VERSION TWO: While New Hampshire Motor Speedway is widely considered Joey’s “hometrack,” the same could also be said about Atlanta Motor Speedway. While Joey was moving up through the racing ranks, the Logano family moved just outside of Atlanta to help further Logano’s career. Logano spent several summers racing Bandoleros and Legends Cars around the quarter-mile oval on Atlanta’s front stretch, where he holds the record for most consecutive Legends Car victories.
  • LOGANO THANKS THE SPONSORS: Joey just got back this past week from a two-day trip to attend a portion of the GameStop National Conferences in San Antonio, Texas. Logano made an appearance at the conference on Tuesday, signing autographs for GameStop store managers, having a meet-and-greet session with several video game manufacturers and participating in a Sony presentation. During the Sony presentation, done in front of nearly 6,000 GameStop store managers from all over the world, Logano drove his No. 20 GameStop Toyota into the conventional center to a standing ovation. He also helped debut game play footage of the upcoming Gran Turismo 5 video game. Logano was able to race the creator of the Gran Turismo series, Kazunori Yamauchi, in a head-to-head matchup and beat the creator, earning all of those in attendance a free copy of the game when it’s released later this year. Video Can be Seen Below.
  • PRACTICE MAKES PERFECT?: Joey and the No. 20 GameStop team spent Thursday testing the NASCAR Nationwide Series “new car” at Gresham Motorsports Park in Jefferson, GA. The team was working on a number of things to improve their performance with the “new car” before races later in the year at Richmond and Charlotte. Gresham Motorsports Park, formerly Peach State Speedway, is a high-banked half-mile track located about halfway between Charlotte and Atlanta.
  • STAT OF THE WEEK: 14. Logano has a streak going of 14-straight top-10 finishes in the NASCAR Nationwide Series this season. Logano has not finished outside of the top-10 since earlier this year at Bristol Motor Speedway, where he was wrecked on the last lap while running in the fifth position. In fact, the Bristol finish is the only finish outside of the top-10 for Logano this season in the Nationwide Series.
  • FEATURED ON THE No. 20: GameStop store #3139, located in Springville, UT, will be the featured store on the lower rear quarter panel of the No. 20 GameStop Toyota this weekend in Atlanta.

Joey Logano Quotes:

“I always love going to Atlanta because of the speed. It is really one of the fastest tracks that we go to all year long. A lot of people think that Daytona or Talladega are the fastest, but Atlanta carries so much speed. Not as much in the Nationwide Series as the Cup Series, but we still go really fast in Atlanta compared to other tracks we go to. That makes it a lot of fun, but means that aero is even that much more important then some other places. Plus, a lot like Charlotte, Atlanta is very temperature sensitive. So there are a lot of things you have to think about going into the race.

“I’m excited to have another cool paint scheme on the car this weekend. We’ve got Metroid: Other M on the car and it looks cool. I got a chance to see it before I went to Texas for the GameStop conference last week. I always like wondering what the other crews think about it when the guys roll the car out of the trailer. This is one of the best looking cars we’ve had this year. The last time we had a really colorful car was in Kentucky and we won that event. So hopefully, we can do that again. We need to get back in Victory Lane and I couldn’t think of a much better place to do it then at Atlanta.

Kevin Kidd Quotes:

“This will be a big weekend for the GameStop team, because it’s another one-day show and those are the ones that put the most pressure on the guys to perform. Practice, race and qualify all on the same day. It’s a lot of work, but sometimes, its separates the players from the pretenders. Atlanta is a very sensitive track, so making minor adjustments to get the car dialed-in is key. That means hard work and focus and good communication all day long.

“We are taking a new 2010 chassis to Atlanta, one that we haven’t run yet this year. So it will be interesting to see how it performs. I’m pretty excited about it and I think it’s going to be a good car. We’ve spent a lot of time making sure its right and hopefully, come Saturday night, we can say that this car is one-for-one in getting to Victory Lane.”
