Interview During Practice

Bob Dillner: One guy that is looking for a good run here this weekend, Joey Logano 12th quick so far, 12 laps in the books, and the rains come, you were talking with Kyle Busch, and it was like a big conference over there what were you guys talking about?

Joey Logano: I was talking about our race cars, typical – typical deal there, just to see what we could do to make our cars go a little faster, we got rookie set of tires, since I am a rookie here, so we actually didn’t get to put em on, we put em on actually and went out there and made two corners and it started raining so…. Besides that, I think we have a good GameStop Toyota, I think it was good in the first practice, this practice I didn’t think it was as good, I know we made a little bit of changes there, It’s tough when you go from you know the cup side to the nationwide side and then say, Hey what was different with your nationwide car? Shoot, I just made 100 laps over there, and everything gets erased out of your mind so, you know it’s kinda of tough to back to back things, after you been in another car for an hour and a half, but I still think this car is pretty good you know, I am sure we are not getting back out.

Bob Dillner: I can see the intensity in your eyes though when you were talking to Kyle and so forth, because this weekend very important to you, you’re from Connecticut, New Englander, and this is home for you how important is a good run here?

Joey Logano: It would be awesome, you know on either side, I mean Zippy’s from up here too, you know this is his joint too so you know that be awesome to run here, you know alot of family and friends around here, so it be cool, it be cool to get a win on either side.

Lindsay Czarniak: I’m with Joey Logano, just got done doing his Sprint Cup Series practice, so you are getting ready to go out here in the nationwide car, I know you’re from this area, you have so much time at this track too in the other series, what do you expect out there today?

Joey Logano: Well see, for qualifying here, not 100% sure, we never made a mock run in the nationwide car here so, I don’t think many people did so alot of people are guessing, our teammate qualified good, so well see what he did and see what we can do, I mean cup cars, Home Depot Toyota over there is decent, I was telling you, were not fast on the speed chart but one tenth puts you right up there in the thick of things, so the feel is just really close, it’s pretty much the same thing over here on the nationwide side so, it’s exciting but it’s one little mistake will put you back there so it makes it tight but, that’s short track racing here NASCAR stuff.

Lindsay Czarniak: Does it give you more confidence having the hometown connection?

Joey Logano: Yeah it’s cool, kinda of like a hometown advantage kinda of thing, I mean you got alot of fans around here, alot of family and friends so that’s pretty cool, I mean I don’t really have alot of laps around here, but you know, I mean that’s not really like that anywhere but at least you’ve got that home court advantage.

Bob Dillner: Well it’s a hectic schedule, for Joey Logano here at the Magic Mile today, three straight poles for him now in Nationwide competition, how are you looking forward to today’s race?

Joey Logano: Well see, the GameStop Toyota is obviously really good, I thought I screwed up, and we still had a really good lap so, that was pretty exciting, I think in race trim we were pretty good in first practice, second practice not real sure about it yet so, well see, we’ve got a really good starting spot obviously and just keep it up front and be there at the end like normal.

Pre-Race Comments

Dave Burns: At this point, having two Camping World East Series wins under your belt right here at this race track, how important is that as you approach today’s race?

Joey Logano: I think it helps a little bit, you know those cars are so different, the biggest thing is the different tires, bias-ply tires versus the radial tires here is probably the biggest difference, but yeah it definitely helps I mean just have some laps around here, it’s cool you kinda of got the home court advantage here, you got you know family and friends around here so that’s pretty neat, it’d be cool to get a win here, you know alot of the guys on this team are up from New England too well see what we can do.

Dave Burns: Well and this is a much bigger race, than those were, alot bigger competition here, so how big would it be if a New England boy takes home the trophy today?

Joey Logano: It can happen, I tell ya I’ve got a great GameStop Toyota so, it’d be awesome, it’d be really cool, it’d be a ton of fun to get all these guys a win here.

Shannon Spake: Down here with second place finisher Joey Logano, 108 laps led today, what happened at the end of the run, between you and the 18, and with your car in particular?

Joey Logano: He beat me pretty much, they were faster at the end at the right point, you know, I think every restart I was just too loose, and that’s when I gave up a spot, and then I was able to get it on the longer run, did it again, except Kyle Was just better threw out the whole run, and we could hang there with him, but if we had the clean air, might of had something for him, but they were better than us, that’s why they got the trophy. I got my buddy Matt over here, I was trying to get him the win for him, but man I tried hard but, I mean it’s tough, I guess I know how Kyle feels lately leading all the laps and then not winning, it’s still a good run for the GameStop team here, 20 team is still going for the owner’s championship, so it still keeps them up there.

Shannon Spake: Now let’s look forward to tomorrow, now I know, that not alot translates, nothing translates, from this car to the cup car, but leading 108 laps, as far as confidence how much of that will translate to tomorrow?

Joey Logano: Oh, alot of that will, over here it’s like my big confidence booster, I feel like I am at home over here, I know what I want, I know what to feel, I know what I need to do to win over here, so that’s a big confidence booster, when you go back and forth between Sprint Cup and the Nationwide.
