BioShock 2 GameStop Toyota

Today there were three practice sessions in total for Joey Logano at the Daytona International Speedway. Two of them in the NASCAR Sprint Cup series, and one in the Nationwide Series.

Unfortunately though in NASCAR Sprint Cup series 2nd practice session of the day, Joey Logano was involved in an accident as an innocent by stander. At the time Joey was running the high line, and the 36 car of Mike Bliss was running the low line, Mike Bliss got loose and wrecked into Joey Logano. This means Joey Logano will have to go to a backup car, and will have to start at the back of the field for the 2nd Gatorade Duel race.

Pre-Race Comments

Joey Logano was interviewed by Jim Of Speed TV, and commented on why he came back out to race at the K&N Pro Series race.

Joey Logano: For alot of fun, I tell ya this is my third year I’ve been out here, I have a blast running out here, Toyota Speedway is one of my favorite tracks, it promotes awesome it was no brainer for me to come back out, I haven’t raced since homestead, so I’ve been pulling my hair out so, I am excited, Mike Olsen brought me a good Home Depot Toyota here and I am stoaked. I got my new crew chief from the Nationwide series hes here, and helping us all out trying to get a little chemistry between us, so hopefully it all works out for us and well have alot of fun tonight so, hope to keep the doors on it for the first 200 and go for the checkers in the last 25.

Race Recap

Joey Logano took the lead on the second lap from Sergio Pena, he would receive challenges for the lead from Sergio Pena, and David Gilliland. For several laps Pena tried working the lower groove to get by Logano, he would get side by side with Joey, but was unable to clear him. Joey would go into the first segment of the race as the leader, and with all but one lap led.

During the break Logano commented on the changes they made to the car, he noted that they were trying to improve the entry of the corner, to help the car rotate more, and he hopes that the changes would not hurt his exit as he was good with the drive off. He also said that they did not have much notes to go off of so the changes they were making, they were really just winging it.

They restarted back again on lap 99 and Joey Logano would lead until lap 106 where Sergio Pena passed Logano on the low side, from there Pena would hold on to the lead and pulled out to a two second distance ahead of Logano. However, on a restart following a yellow flag, Joey Logano was able to get a good restart and get by Pena again. Pena would get by Logano again on lap 178, and would hold the lead going into the 200 lap marker, which also marks the 2nd break. Where the teams get 10 minutes to make changes to the car, for the last 25 laps of the race.

During this second break, the crew worked on repairing a little bit of right front fender damage, Joey commented that they were definitely swinging for the fence, and that they weren’t fast enough, he said that the 4 car of Sergio Pena is the class of the field and that he is pulling every trick out of his book to make it work and that they are working hard. He also said it is one of the tighter racecars hes ever driven. Joey also said he is going for zero or hero.

On the Restart with 24 to go Joey Logano was able to beat Sergio Pena, and the two battled side by side then a caution came out with 21 laps to go. On the Restart with 13 to go Logano was able to clear Sergio and hold onto the lead. Coming down with ten to go, Sergio gets side by side again with Joey, but another caution comes out for the wrecked car of Michael Self. At this point NASCAR red flagged the race so the laps don’t run out.

NASCAR brings out the yellow flag, and we get a restart with seven laps to go, once again Joey Logano gets a great restart. Matt Kobyluck gets by Pena, and Kobyluck is now in 2nd place with six to go. With four laps to go Pena gets by Kobyluck, and Pena is now in second and is chasing Joey Logano, but was unable to get back to Joey. Joey Logano would cross the finish line and win by 5 tenths over Sergio Pena.
