Whats your name?
Kathy Scott
Where are you from?
Hope Mills, NC
Tell us a little bit about yourself.
I am a registered nurse at Cape Fear Valley Medical Center in Fayetteville NC. I work in the Spinal Cord Injury Unit. I love my patients. My stepson was my inspiration to work with paralyzed patients. He has been a para since he was 13, and now in his forties, he is completely independent. He is now flying ultralite planes. If Joey ever wants to go up in one it would be an inspiration to a lot of people. Anyway, other than my job I love all animals and have rehabilitated a few. My favorite was a squirrel named Molly. She lived 12 years. I also like to read and play the piano. Last, but not least, I love my family. My twins (a girl and boy) are 36 years old. I have 4 grandchildren, ages 18, 9, and twins 4. It’s sad they live near Chicago and don’t get to see them very often. My husband is also a Joey fan. I think it is great that Joey is involved with the parapalegic bobsledders.
What is your favorite food and drink?
Ribeye steak with baked potato, asparagus and all that smothered in bearnaise sauce. Then a glass of Merlot and black coffee.
How did you get into NASCAR?
As a child I would sit with my dad and listen to the race on the radio. It was Richard Petty all the way! I was raised mopar. Waited 23 years to get my dream car – a ’73 Plymouth Cuda, red and of course it has flowmasters. I also have two older brothers that just added fuel to the flame! Being raised on a farm, I learned to drive sitting on the gearbox of a Farmall 140 tractor.
How did you become a fan of Joey Logano?
The first time I saw and read about him was when his picture was in the paper just before his first cup race. That picture caught my eye because at that time he looked so much like my 18 year old grandson.
I started reading everything I could about him. I like Mark Martin and respect him as one of the greats. If Mark said “he is the real deal” and “the next best thing than sliced bread” I believed him. I believe Joey has what it takes to be a great driver and he has a beautiful smile and personality. He does good things for other people.
What’s your favorite race track?
I love Darlington. It’s a challenge to the drivers, plus it’s closest to my home. I actually attended 2 races there with my brothers. One of those was when Jeff Burton tried to take Jeff out on the last lap, but Jeff held on and took that million dollar bonus. I like the shorter tracks.
Have you met Joey Logano, and how did it go?
No, unfortunately, but if I ever do, it will be one of the biggest honors of my life! I would probably be speechless!
Do you have any other favorite drivers besides Joey?
I saw potential in Jeff Gordan and followed him for a few years. I have a lot of respect for him. Then Mark Martin, Bill Elliott, and of course The King. I like the old days when Rusty, Dale Jarrett, Earnhardt, the Labontes went at it. Too many to name.
Thanks for the interview Kathy!
