Too much scrutiny by the media over Joey Logano?

Randy Pemberton: Has there been any team that has been more scrutinized and been more heavily watched than the team that is lead by Greg Zipadelli down here, with young driver Joey Logano. You guys are getting all kinds of press, it’s almost gotta be tiring. Unfortunately Greg, you went out last night and got in the bud shootout and it went away in such a big hurry, talk about that disappointment for you and Joey.

Greg Zipadelli:Yeah I mean obviously I was disappointed, we kind of were looking forward to that as a team test for us to just kind of learn a little bit, let him get some laps on tires and be around some guys and learn, you know we didn’t have any winter testing down here to get any drafting practice or anything. So you know it’s all new to us, It’s a little disappointing like you said, that you hear so much about something that, I mean I don’t know what the big deal is, hes not doing anything wrong, hes a great competitor, hes a great kid, just to think of everybody else that wants a chance here so, well just work hard, well try to be methodical and slow and kind of you know gain some experience here, and hopefully we can survive next Sunday all day, that would be the most important thing for us, and just trying to get a good finish.

Randy Pemberton: He’s young in years, but hes been racing for a long time, so he understands that 90% of it is disappointment but this is the toughest form of racing in the world. How do you guys talk to him and after a let down such as that, what did you say?

Greg Zipadelli: Ahh, you know, just shake it off, I mean it is what it is, he did everything he thought he could, he got down on the apron, it was another car that caught us, it was cars in front of us that started it, so its not like we were in the middle of it, or caused it, he was doing what he should have been doing, he was in the back, around some good cars, the 31, the 29, and was just going to stay there and watch them and learn. And that’s kind of what we expected, and its a shame that other people up in the front were a little rougher earlier, and took alot of good race cars out, but you kind of saw that all night, you know, everybody was a little over anxious I think to get racing, and that’s what makes that race so special, and so fun, it’s not for points, it’s not for anything other than just go out and have a good time. And you know, next Sunday will obviously be different, it will be a day of survival, the race track will change a bunch, between the other night, and what we race on Sunday, so hopefully we can get a driving and good handling race car. You know he did a great job in the arca race, he does a great job in the nationwide, I don’t see why he won’t do a great job for us here. Were going to take our lumps, we are going to have our ups and downs, but we are going to do it together as a group, as a team, it’s all of us learning what he wants, and what he needs and he’s never been here before you know? So you know as far as that goes, I am proud of him he did a good job in practice the other day, stayed out of trouble, kinda of put his car in some situations to learn and that’s what you gotta do, I mean, everybody out there that is criticizing out there and saying all those things but they gotta remember at one point in time they were in his position or they were in my position you know as a crew chief coming in and making decisions and making calls and sometimes everybody forgets what it’s like to be down here in the line of fire, and when you get on the other side its a whole lot easier to be smarter than just criticize everybody, rather than you know give this kid a little pat on the back for what he has accomplished in a short period of time, you know the effort and the attitude that he does carry with him, I think it’s great for the sport. We need some young and energetic guys in the sport, that’s what makes it what it is you know. 10 Years ago, Tony Stewart came in and it was starting from scratch for us as a team, obviously he had alot more years of racing experience but you know it’s the same thing, well just do our best here with this home depot Toyota, I think we’ve got a good package, got great race cars, guys at the shop did a good job this winter, and were looking forward to it.

Randy Pemberton: Greg it couldn’t of have been said any better, I agree with you 100% and I wanna go on record right now, we’ve had a couple of members of our staff, perhaps out there at the fan zone, that said perhaps this kid’s not ready, hes too young, I am going to go on record right now, I don’t want to make too many predictions but Joey Logano will win a race in 2009, mark my words I am probably not going too far on a limb, but I think he will.
