Live Chat with Joey Logano Recap

Joey Logano participated in a live chat today on KansasCity.com. The fans were able to submit questions to Joey Logano via text. Below is the transcript from today’s chat session.

Question: Joey, congratulations on a great finish last week. How will the different tires effect your approach to Sundays race , & what will be your biggest challenge? Good luck.

Joey Logano: This is the same tire we raced at California, so we kind of know what to expect. had a good test at Kentucky a couple days ago. We’ll see here in a few minutes.

Question: In your opinion, how do you think this season has been so far?

Joey Logano: Definitely not as good as we expected. We came off a good finish last week, so hopefully we can get momentum on our side and pick up to where we were last year.

Question: Question for Joey, this year is a contract year for you, have you signed yet for 2012?

Joey Logano: It’s not a contract year for me, actually.

Question: What was your first “Wow, I’m really racing in the big time” moment?

Joey Logano: My first Daytona 500. Walking on pit road, seeing your car there, that was pretty cool.

Question: What is on your mind when you start a race?

Joey Logano: Lot of things. You wonder what your car will be like, get a game plan set, how you want race to play out and prepare yourself for what could happen. Constantly focusing on every little thing that’s going on.

Question: Joey, I’ve been following you on Twitter for awhile…so what exactly is the score between you and Coleman Pressley with Foosball?

Joey Logano: I’m winning. Believe I beat him in everything the other night.

Question: You have been in the wrong place at the wrong time occasionally. Have any of your crashes hurt?

Joey Logano: No. A little sore the next morning, but I’ve been OK. Bruised ego.

Question: Do you have any pre-race rituals?

Joey Logano: I do not. I just go and race. Eat as much as I can and prepare myself.

Question: How do you handle all of your crazy fans?

Joey Logano: I’m pretty crazy myself. I think it’s cool. I get to meet a lot and it’s cool to hear how far some of them have driven just to see me.

Question: What’s on your playlist at the moment.

Joey Logano: I don’t listen to my ipod hardly ever. Listen to radio, so whatever’s on. Sometimes a little country. Switching it up all the time.

Question: Can you take the success you’ve had winning the last two Nationwide races at Kansas Speedway into the Cup race?

Joey Logano: I think more laps on the racetrack helped, I think last year we learned a lot and learned what to look for. We’ll have a better direction of where to go here in practice in a few minutes.

Question: How hungry are you to get your second career win? What’s been difficult about this season?

Joey Logano: Very, very, very. What’s been difficult? Just trying to stay motivated and keep your team going through a tough time. They’ve been doing a good job.

Question: do like any other sports?

Joey Logano: I like hockey. Don’t really follow any other sports. Used to play hockey.

Question: What’s the hardest thing about being on the road so much?

Joey Logano: Nothing. I like being on the road. Am used to it. You get used to it. When you get home, you wonder where you’re going next.

Question: What’s it like driving for Joe Gibbs? Does he bring a football mentality to racing?

Joey Logano: Every once in a while, he’ll throw a football saying out there and will relate it to racing, but most of the time not. He’s really cool to work for. Pretty cool to work for someone like that.

Question:What is ur favortie thing to do when you arent racing?

Joey Logano: Work on my house lately. Been spending a lot of money at Home Depot. Building stuff, putting things together. Built a workbench to build other cool stuff on.

Question: Joey our buddy 14 year Tyler Hughes racing from Md. started off at 6 racing and has won everything he has gotten in, he is now in a Legend at Old Dominion speedway at 14 years old what advice can you give him as far as moving up and what you have learned?

Joey Logano: If he’s that good, he should tell me something. I have questions for him. ha-ha. Enjoy it and have fun. It’s a lot of hard work, so enjoy it while you can.

Question: Who all do you talk to for racing advice?

Joey Logano: Anybody and everybody. Obviously my teammates a lot. Guys in the shop a lot on what the cars are doing.

Question: Whats it like having teammates like Denny and Kyle, do they help you alot?

Joey Logano: We all try to help each other as much as we can and try to make our cars better. We all work together and talk to each other. We have stuff after the races that we talk about. Just typical stuff that most teams do.

Question: What race do you look forward in the season?

Joey Logano: Kentucky, 3 poles, 3 wins in Nationwide will make you like it. Looking forward to first Cup race there.

Question: how long do you see yourself racing in the cup series ???

Joey Logano: Hopefully for a long time. A while. I’m still young. Have a long ways to go. Until I’m old.

Question: Joey have you got a pretty even keeled temper when it comes down to it?

Joey Logano: I think I’m like a roller-coaster. I can get really mad and really happy within a few minutes.

Question: How many cars do you have in your personal garage? And which one is your favorite??

Joey Logano: Five. My Lexus ISF is my favorite.

Question: At what age did you realize that you wanted to be a professional racer?

Joey Logano: When I started, so around 6 or so.

Question: What is your most difficult track?

Joey Logano: Road courses.

Question: Would you ever consider racing anything other then stock cars? Sports Cars, Formula 1, ect.

Joey Logano: I would. I’d race anything. NASCAR now is where I want to be. But the opportunity comes up to drive something else, I’d consider it.

Question: how in the world did you miss that bunch up in turn one last week

Joey Logano: I guess it was luck. Went to the right and everything just kind of opened up for me.

Question: What is your favorite thing about racing?

Joey Logano: Winning.

Question: I went to high school with Kyle Bush and he isn’t the villain they paint him to be. What is your opinion of the roles NASCAR/fans assign to drivers and what would you consider your role to be?

Joey Logano: Kyle is just very competitive. We all are and show our emotions in different ways. I want to be the Mark Martin-type driver and be respected.

Question: how supportive is your family with your decision to be a race car driver?

Joey Logano: They’re very supportive. You get to this level, every one of these drivers has had a family that’s helped them. It takes a big commitment out of your family to get here.
