Behind the Scenes of Home Depot Commercial
Recap of Video
Joey Logano: Hey I am Joey Logano, welcome to the set of the 2009 Home Depot Commercial.
Ray Dillman (Director) The spot is suppose to look like Joey goes to Home Depot and gets help. The core of it is, that you get help at home depot and it should appear normal, but the twist is, it’s joey starting his new career with his racing team and as we see all the NASCAR stuff revealed, he doesn’t really react to it in any overt way, he doesn’t go “WOW there’s a car”, he just goes, “okay, that’s what I need” and then you’re gonna need one of these, one of these.
Joe Gibbs: I gotta tell ya, I am amazed at the people it takes, the organizational structure, everything, trying to everything lined up and everything. Off course then, you start sweating, and I am going to say this the right way.
Greg Zipadelli: It’s fun, its interesting to come and see how you can stand there and feel like you do absolutely nothing for 30 minutes, but then how they put it all together to make a 30 second commercial out of it, so that’s fun, the camera man, only did it a few times, and said “i like what I see,” so I am guessing we all did a good job today, standing there like mannequins.
Joey Logano: It takes alot longer than you think you do, to make a 30 second commercial, so yeah you gotta do it right, and even if you do it right, you gotta do it again just in case. Then you gotta do a different angle, and you got about 30 different scenes, it feels like, so for me, I am definitely a rookie at this stuff too, so getting all of your lines right, acting right, and where you look and all that stuff, it takes a while.
Joe Gibbs: I remember Tony when he did his first one and then at the end, he was pretty much a polished pro, you see Joey and this is, I think his second one, and he’s already improved. So I think Joey will be much more relaxed, and he will be good on these things.
Ray Dillman (Director) The surprise for me, was that he was a really quick study, his instincts initially were 180 degrees wrong, in the first day, he was just kind of noting his head and going on, by the second day, he was telling us how to do it.
Greg Zipadelli: Anything you can do, I think to spend time together, to joke around and have some fun, especially different situations outside the race track, you know kinds of build a little character, you get to know somebody in different circumstances, different situations, I think that always helps.
Joe Gibbs: You know, it’s neat to have somebody like home depot, you know really tries to do things the right way, with home depot, you’ll have somebody that’s gonna have you on the forefront of the advertiser, media, print, it’s going to be everything, because they are going to do it the right way.
Joey Logano: You know, it comes out good at the end, and it looks really cool, so I guess its all worth it at the end.

I loved this behind the scenes video! Joey and the rest of the team did an awesome job!
