Joey Logano The Toyota Owners 400 Race Talk - Saturday April 27, 2013

No. 22 Auto Club of Southern California Ford Fusion driven by Joey Logano

Saturday, April 27, 7:30 pm ET

Primary Chassis: PRS-853
Last Raced: New chassis
Backup Chassis: PRS-844
Last Raced: Backup chassis from Fontana, Texas (not used)

THE NEWS & NOTES
  • A TOUGH WEEKEND:Joey Logano and the No. 22 Shell-Pennzoil team couldn’t get out of Kansas fast enough. The 22-year-old driver entered Kansas ranked ninth in the point standings. However, following a NASCAR-issued penalty and a disappointing 39th-place finish after being involved in an accident with the No. 18 car of Kyle Busch just 100 laps into the race, Logano now finds himself 20th in the standings. Despite the ranking, Logano is only 53 points outside of the top 10.
  • A LITTLE SPONSOR LOVE: This week will mark the annual Penske Racing Sponsor Summit and Logano and his fellow Penske drivers will get a little chance to shine on the links. As part of the sponsor summit, the drivers will play golf with those in attendance on Wednesday.
  • TOP 12 IN POINTS: Despite some bad luck all year long, Logano finds himself 12th in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series, just 11 points outside of the top-10, and 20 points outside of the top-six.
  • TIME TO TURN IT AROUND AT RICHMOND: Richmond International Raceway will be the perfect place to turn things back around for Logano and grab his first win of the 2013 season. Logano’s best career finish at Richmond came in the fall race of 2010, when he finished fourth. He has qualified in the top-10 in three of the last five races at Richmond. He has earned three top-10s in for starts at Richmond in the NASCAR Nationwide Series.

HAS YOUR FOCUSED CHANGED AFTER THE LAST COUPLE WEEKS?

“Most definitely not. We are going out there week after week trying to win races. If we win races, the points will take care of themselves. We just have to keep doing what we have been doing all year long, which is bringing fast racecars to the track and running up front. Kansas was the first weekend where we struggled a little bit with our speed, but we would have been able to make the most out of it at the end of the day had we not gotten caught up in that wreck with Kyle (Busch). Everyone is going to have a bad day. We just got ours out of the way already.”

DO YOU LIKE SATURDAY NIGHT RACES?

“I think all of us like Saturday night races. That is what we all grew up doing – racing at our local track on a Saturday night. There is something really cool about seeing our cars racing around the track under the lights. It’s great on TV and it’s even better in person. On top of that, it gives you a Sunday at home, which is rare for us. So yeah, I think we all love Saturday night short track racing.”

FANTASTIC!! Only Joey and Kyle Busch have 3 top 5s in the past 5 races. Also Joey just beat his(and the 22 teams) top 5 total of last year in only 9 races! I think were in for a good season! Just need to get some bad luck out of the way! GO JOEY!!

I like to think that Joey can get thru 7 weeks on his own, he would have someone doing the Crew Chief, possibly someone he knows at Penske and he will have the same spotter he has had up till now, I presume, SO,,,,I think Joey can tough it out and be OK.......gws

Great finish. Those type of races didn't happen at JGR. Great calls to get tires by Todd and great driving by Joey. If we lose Todd its all who we get paired with. CC will be keY. Dega won't be big deal, but Darlington, Dover Lowes, MIS, Pocono, will be. We need some luck. Joey and Todd getting used to each other and now need to change the voice in his ear. those tracks are TOUGH to not have your CC, Engineer, Car Chief. Depth or no depth it's hard. But PRS has resources and I would love to see Erwin but I think Kez gets him
