No. 22 Pennzoil Ford Fusion driven by Joey Logano

Sunday, May 26, 6:00 pm ET

Primary Chassis: PRS-854
Last Raced: New Chassis
Backup Chassis: PRS-844
Last Raced: Backup at several races (not yet raced)

THE NEWS & NOTES
  • STATS SAY CHARLOTTE THE BEST: Logano’s stats tell the tale of his NASCAR Sprint Cup Series career at Charlotte Motor Speedway. Statistically, Charlotte Motor Speedway is Logano’s best track on the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series schedule. In eight races there, he’s earned five top-10 finishes. His average finish of 10.1 is his personal best of all the tracks on the circuit and it’s also the best of all current NASCAR Sprint Cup Series drivers.
  • SECOND-PLACE ALL-STAR: Logano finished second in last weekend’s All-Star event at Charlotte Motor Speedway, the best he has ever finished in the special event. Logano had the fifth-best average over the course of the first four segments and then drove from fourth to second over the final 10 laps.
  • HAPPY BIRTHDAY: Logano will celebrate his 23rd birthday this Friday, May 24th.
  • DOUBLE-DUTY AGAIN: Logano will be back behind the wheel of the No. 22 Discount Tire Ford in the NASCAR Nationwide Series event this weekend.
  • SPECIAL PAINT SCHEME: The No. 22 Ford will again transform from the regular yellow and red to a primarily yellow car highlighting the team’s Pennzoil partnership.
  • BUSY WEEK: As is normally the case, Logano will have a busy week heading into Charlotte. He will participate in the annual King’s Cup event Wednesday and will have several sponsor appearances throughout the week and weekend.

HOW TOUGH IS 600 MILES?

“It’s pretty tough. A lot of people will ask if it’s hard to stay focused but it’s really not. If you lose focus, you will wreck. But when you get out of the car on Sunday night after 600 miles, your body can sure feel it. But we are all drivers and we prepare for this and we train for this. Dover and Bristol can be a little more physically demanding and Talladega and Daytona can be a little more mentally demanding, but overall, this is definitely one of the toughest races that we run all year long.”

DO YOU LIKE RACING AT HOME DURING THESE TWO WEEKS?

“I mean we all love being able to go home and sleep in our own beds, but the weekend also brings with it a lot of appearances and requests for time and such. But you just go along with it. It’s really cool to come to the track and see the guys on the team have their wives and girlfriends with them and to see the guys at the shop who normally don’t get to come to the track come out and see everyone. That makes you want to win the race even more. Victory Lane celebrations at Charlotte are about as good as they can get.”

Alternator or battery, either way its 600 miles, plenty of time to get to the front!

RE: Joey Logano Coca-Cola 600 Race Talk
Quote:TALK ABOUT COMING FROM SO FAR BACK IN THE RACE.

“It was a long race. Starting from 31st with the Shell-Pennzoil Ford we had our work cut out for us, especially at a track that is so hard to pass. It seemed like it was harder to pass here than normal, but my pit crew did a tremendous job today. They gained me at least one spot every time I came down pit road and that’s so valuable. Pit calls were definitely interesting there at the end on what we needed to do and whether we took four or two (tires) when they were going green, and then when the caution (flag) came out whether we were gonna do four or two (tires) again. I’m glad I’m not the one making the calls.”

HOW DO YOU FEEL THE CREW DID THE LAST THREE WEEKS?

“With these penalties with Greg (Erwin), Steve (Reis) and all the guys filling in these spots have done an awesome job. We couldn’t find better people to do that and I’m just very proud of my team. They’re a bunch of hard fighters and I’m so happy to be involved with that.”
